Ring of lights over Staxton
Location of sighting: A64 Ganton near Scarborough
Date and time: 20th March at 7 pm
The witness was driving along the A64 toward Scarborough and was at Ganton when he saw an "elipitical ring of lights, orange in colour and pulsating, over Scarborough, accompanied by two single lights higher in altitude...[They] seemed to be moving fast."
In a follow-up email he gave the following description:
"The lights were chasing [sic] on and off as if some disco rope lights had been attached to an airship is the best way I could describe it. They were stationary and appeared twice at approx 1 min interval for approx 10 seconds. I also noticed two smaller orange lights at a higher altitude up and to the right, maybe over Staxton village. I was driving through Ganton towards Scarborough and the lights appeared to be some distance off over the approximate region of the fields near the Scarborough tip, but it was hard to comprehend the range. Others must have seen this. The road had quite a lot of traffic."
Two other witnesses independently reported seeing what has to be the same object(s). This was a couple who live in Staxton. They were looking through the upstairs study window toward RAF Staxton Wold. Their attention was drawn to some contrails in the sky which seemed different from the ones they were used to seeing over that area: they 'didn't look right'. It was then that they noticed a string of six orange lights close together. Looking through binoculars the woman saw that they were connected or tied together. They watched for a few seconds before the lights faded. There was then an interval of about a minute and another string of lights (or possibly the first set of lights again) appeared in another part of the sky. The time that they first string was observed was 6.51 pm. The continued watching the sky until 7.10 pm. The sky was clear.
