UFO swinging like a pendulum
“In 1971, when I was 15 yrs old, I was on my way home from my grandparents’ house in Dawley, Shropshire. I had to pass an area where some houses had been demolished in King Street. Beyond that land there were some pit mounds left over from coal mining in the area. Over these mounds in the distance I could see a big, bright orange-red light hovering over them. I was on my own and there was nobody else around so I felt very apprehensive. The object started to move and was swinging like a pendulum would swing up and down and side to side in a semi-circular motion. I stood still and watched it for several minutes - Then the light got brighter and was coming towards me. I was really frightened and started to run as fast as I could all of the way home, which wasn't far away in Worcester Road. I didn't dare look back! When I got in I rushed upstairs to my bedroom to look whether the light was still in the sky, but it had gone. I mentioned this to my parents and they were interested, but didn't really know what it could have been. There was a report the next day about a UFO sighting in the local newspaper, "The Shropshire Star", and on the news on TV about a lot of people from the areas around the Wrekin, Wellington, Admaston, Bratton and Shawbury who had seen this orange-red object making strange movements across the sky.
“A few months after this, one of my school friends was dating a young man from Bratton. He had told her about a UFO sighting he had and he had been on TV with a group of other people from Bratton. She introduced us and we discussed our experience with each other.”
NB This pendulum-type movement – sometimes called a ‘falling leaf motion’ – has been associated with UFOs throughout its history.
